Burt-mania kicked off in Melbourne on Wednesday with the opening of our new exhibition exploring the life and art of Tim Burton. As spotlights shone into a typically freezing Melbourne night, an array of enthused guests headed down the red carpet and into ACMI to pay homage to this unique creative genius.
As guests rolled up for the show, entertainment was provided by various circus escapees and the scene was set for the strange and fantastic imaginings of Tim Burton to be unveiled.
It was a particularly hazardous day on the job for the local paparazzi…
…but with guests this photogenic, the shutterbugs were prepared to take their chances:
Once inside, guests mingled and heard speeches from Master of Ceremonies John Thwaites, Arts Minister Peter Batchelor, Director of ACMI Tony Sweeney, and of course the ever-humble and ever-loveable Mr Tim Burton.
A big thank you to everyone who attended this enchanting evening, the MoMA team for their original conception of the exhibition, our staff for translating it to ACMI and, of course, the wonderful and fascinating Tim Burton. For those who missed it we live ‘tweeted’ the night. Here are some of the pictures:
The exhibition is now open to the public, seven days a week (and late on Thursdays with the fabulous Burton Club), so come on down!
